Handmade vs. Machine-Made Cigars
The distinction between handmade and machine-made cigars is fundamental to understanding the cigar industry. Both are tobacco products, but they are produced very differently, commonly use different tobacco formats, operate at very different production scales, and generally serve different segments of the market. Premium cigars are predominantly associated with handmade production because working with natural tobacco leaves, custom blends, different vitolas, and premium wrappers requires a level of manual selection, judgment, and craftsmanship that high-volume automated production is not designed to provide.
