Tobacco Preparation for Production

Before a Bonchero or Pegadora can make a cigar, the tobacco has to be ready to work with. Tobacco is a natural material. Its moisture, elasticity, thickness, and handling characteristics vary between tobacco types and can change during storage. A leaf that is too dry can crack or tear. A leaf with too much moisture can become difficult to work with and can affect construction and combustion. So before the approved blend reaches the cigar-making table, the different tobaccos need to be selected, conditioned, prepared, and organized for production.
